YASUSHI SEKIGUCHI was born in 16 November 1965 in Okayama, Japan. He studied theology and Christian Ethics at the Tokyo Union Theological Seminary (B. D., Th. M.), from April 1984 to March 1990; and Reformed Dogmatics at the Kobe Reformed Theological Seminary, from April 1997 to June 1998.
As a pastor, he served the United Church of Christ in Japan (UCCJ), from April 1990 to January 1997; and from July 1998, the Reformed Church in Japan (RCJ).
As the Reformed pastor, he served the Yamanashi Eiko Church (in Yamanashi), from July 1998 to March 2004; and from 1 April 2004, he is serving the Matsudo Koganehara Church (in Chiba).
From 17 July 2006 to April 2008, he was the assistant clerk (member of the board of moderators) of East-Kanto Presbytery, that is the newest and sixth presbytery of Reformed Church in Japan (RCJ), and that covers the East side of metropolitan area (except Tokyo) in Japan. All communities of this presbytery were born from the cooperative mission between Christian Reformed Church in North America (CRCNA) and Church in Japan (RCJ).
20 February 1999, he became one of the founders and the first chairman of Van Ruler Translation Society, that is a Japanese translation and studying group of the theology of Prof. Dr. Arnold Albert van Ruler [1908-1970].
From June 2006, he became one of the members of board of directors (secretrary) of the Japanese Association of Asian Congress on Calvin Research, that is a study-group of the thought and life of John Calvin [1509-1564].
In 6 april 1991, he married with Tsuyako Sunada (born in 1969 in Tokyo). From April 1987 to March 1991, she studied theology and symbolics at the Japan Lutheran Theological Seminary (B. D.), and from April 1991 to January 1997, she was a pastor of United Church of Christ in Japan (UCCJ).
They have two children, Ken (1994 in Kochi) and Yumiko (1999 in Kobe).
